I’ve seen it so often. People getting so close to their goals then putting self imposed barriers in the way as to why it can’t be completed or reached.
I see it a lot in overweight people who want to lose weight. Despite the desire to change the way they look or how they feel they will put up a multitude of reasons why they can’t or should be in fear of change.
Lots of what ifs and buts….
Now a lot of coaches will utter the same old ‘you don’t want it enough’ speech and cross correlate their own ability to be disciplined with diet and training with that of their apparent ‘non compliant’ client.
People spend their lives trying to be accepted by their peers and society. For most part of that is also how they look. All of a sudden deciding to change the way you look, behave etc is a daunting thought.
For many losing weight or getting in shape is scary.
Scared of failure.
Scared of your peers seeing you fail.
Scared of people judging you differently.
Treating you differently.
Also the fact that it’s not just you that needs to accept change. Your friend you used to go out drinking with has to accept it. The friends who used to enjoy eating guilty pleasure with you as collectively guilt and food becomes filtered. Eating what society would deem as ‘guilt’ food alone is very different than in a group. Part of the reasons we enjoy these types of food so much in group situations is the eradication of guilt.
Think about it.
Now all you PTs out there with your discipline and commitment to diet and training. You may sit up on your little high horse with your motivational memes etc but that confident cocky demeanour is because it’s your world. I see PTs frozen by fear when it comes to progression of their businesses.
They’re scared of rejection so they become overly possessive over their clients. When they travel they don’t ensure their client gets their training in through fear that they’ll ‘run off’ with another trainer.
They keep their fees in alignment with the local area not their service or experience. Again fear of losing clients.
They have ideas that they never move beyond the ‘idea’
Just as you may need nurtured and guided in any scenario you must also realise one thing.
You deserve success.
I recall a t-shirt one of my friends had that read ‘face your fears, live your dreams’ and this I believe is very true across life!
Change is scary but sometimes you got to go with it and make the steps towards it.
Enjoy your day people!!!
