Whenever I look to hire a professional there are certain criteria I personally look for in this day and age. Now this might just be me but maybe beg that question of yourself and see if you match your own criteria.
I expect them to be a full time professional. I don’t want someone who does something as a hobby. I know how valuable experience and commitment to what you do is.
In this industry the majority of coaches are, as far as I can see part timers. They’re bodybuilders, physique athletes, cross-fitters, entrepreneurs, bikini athletes of such like who do Personal Training as a part time role.
Don’t depict your profession as your hobby. Putting ‘PT’ after your name or in your email address doesn’t convince people of that.
I expect them to be professional. I don’t want to click on their social media channel to see unprofessional conduct.
I expect them to be responsive to my emails or communications, even if the answer is no, or ‘I’ll get back to you soon’. I see so many businesses moaning how bad business is but I can send an email to them and not receive a response for weeks.
It’s 2016. I expect them to have a website. The only exception would be if they are THAT good and have been THAT good for a long time that they live off referalls.
Alongside that I DO NOT want an email from a gmail or Hotmail address or such like. It cries amateur, part time and the cost to register a domain even, put up at the least a holding page and an email address is less that £20. No excuse.
I want transparency and confidence. Our industry is full of charlatans and people ‘trying their luck’. If I ask for a price or something about your business and you can’t tell me straight I’ll hang up the phone immediately.
