Ok, I’m gonna tell you something you probably don’t want to hear.
Jan 2nd (as it’s a Monday) many of you are going to start going to the gym every day…..DON’T
The same day you’re probably going to ban, exclude and eradicate a whole bunch of foods from your diet….DON’T
Some of you are gonna start something that involves a bunch of shakes, meal replacements and a whole heap of
You’ll sustain NONE of it.
That’s how it is and believe me or not by mid January that’s gonna be the reality for the highest percentage of you.
(If you’re muttering that it won’t be you just wait)
I’ve watched these attempts at habit and behavioural change for over 20 years now and all I’ve consistently seen is people returning to their previous behaviours and habits within weeks. The year after it’s like Groundhog Day.
It’s not a lack of motivation or willpower so motivation and willpower ain’t gonna fix it. It’s far more complex than that but in the same breath far more simple.
DO…..start working out and expending more energy than you were before. If you don’t know what you’re doing seek some instruction as to how you do a whole body resistance workout.
DO….start hitting the gym 3x a week and getting a good intense 20-30 mins in. If you want to go more. DON’T. You want that feeling of wanting to go to remain. That will slowly wain if you go daily when that motivations high.
DO…..monitor what and how much you eat. Make some simple and smart changes so every day you’re consistently consuming the same amount of calories. This tied in with the new output will get some nice steady sustainable weight loss.
DO….set yourself a target with water intake. Just a bit more than you’d normally take in and 1st Feb re-assess it. Did you do it? Yes, increase it a little. No, reset those target.
DO…..get back on track when you make an error. Don’t write anything off. That’s YOU you’re writing off? You wouldn’t write yourself off would you?
You will make errors. That’s par for the course. Trust me.
DO….know that people like me give a s*** about you. We want YOU to gain control over your choices and to educate you to make better ones.
People will try to sabotage your efforts, yourself included and we will happily be there for you when that happens to help put you back on the track and start your engine again.
Think long term.
I KNOW you want it now. Slow and steady will win the race though and hey, what you’ve tried before hasn’t so what’s to lose? Certainly not another year bouncing from fad to fad.
