One of the most alarming things I’ve seen in the personal training industry over the past few years is the industries acceptance of telling big fat lies and using every strategy known to deceive potential clients.
This also transcends into the business side of things and one thing that really irritates me (not a lot does) is people conning and stealing both time and money from good hard working people.
Not even batting an eyelid whilst doing so.
Fake before and after pictures, ones stolen from other coaches.
Promises of changes that simply can’t physiologically occur.
Promises of increases in earnings that defy even basic maths.
Solutions to poor earnings that revolve around ethically unsound practices.
Claims of credentials that have no backing.
Unregistered companies claiming they can do things for you that they havn’t even done for themselves.
The use of ‘props’, cars, planes, fancy locations to speculate your ability to make people money. Notable by the fact these cars or planes aren’t registered to the person claiming ownership.
Hell, people sitting on laptops on the beach making out that’s how they make their living. If anyone’s ever attempted using a laptop on a beach you’ll know why that’s the biggest load of BS they’ve ever heard.
Claims that you’re fully booked but can fit ‘one more in’ always.
Why do I know this…..
I do my homework. It doesn’t take a lot to search these people. Find out the details on their companies, their claims. Their backgrounds. Do some basic maths. All things YOU as people that may be looking for mentors or people to help you with your physique or business.
Ask these companies for accounts, details of past clients you can speak too. Look for first hand accounts. Not ‘edited’ written reviews you find online. Ask for VAT registration numbers. Have a quick search on companies house. Google them, be a detective for a moment before you part with your hard earned cash and valuable time!
If they operate online booking systems look for those ‘valuable’ few slots they claim to have left.
DO your homework!!!!
I implore you!!
I’ve seen so many people get conned in this industry. Far more than I’ve ever witnessed before. Clients and PTs alike.
It’s the world we live in sadly. Your time and money is valuable to you and also to me.
I hate liars, con artists and thieves!
