Five things you may want to consider.
ONE……..The resistance machines that people stick to instead of barbells and Dumbbells through fear of ‘getting big’ were designed by bodybuilders for getting bigger. They allow you to target specific muscle groups and overload the muscle continuously by using cams and levers.
TWO………If you are ‘getting big’ be that fat or muscle you’re overeating. If you’re not overeating and you still think you’re ‘getting big’ it’s psychology and you just ‘think’ you are. You can’t create something from nothing. Fat and muscle both require a surplus of calories to grow. You know those ‘thin’ and ‘fat’ days you determine you’re having by looking in the bathroom mirror every morning. Same kinda thing.
THREE…….Bodybuilders work primarily in high reps. It’s easier to get blood into muscle and make muscles swell. It also makes them more efficient at the uptake and disposal of glycogen (carbs) from lean tissue. Why also you’ll struggle to grow on a low carb diet.
FOUR……..If you continue to overeat and do hundreds of ‘AB crunches’ your midsection will over time get bigger, not smaller. The muscles of your abdominals just like every other muscle on your body will swell and grow, if you overload them and put your body in a hyper caloric state (overeat).
FIVE……..Most people want to improve the way they look. If your technique sucks with exercise its like giving a 5 year old all the material to build your new house and leaving them to get on with it. It will probably get built but it will look awful. Invest in a good builder (coach). Guys particularly. The male genotype does not come with a pre downloaded ‘weight training for dummies’ manual. You don’t know what you’re doing so stop pretending. It’s like when your car breaks down and you stand looking at the engine…….
Truth is, the “education” you receive whilst doing your Personal Training course just doesn’t supply you with the information you need to get better than average results with yourself, let alone high level clients.
And don’t even get me started on the amount of bad information you find littering the web that most people build their entire training philosophy on which just makes zero sense.
